Over the last few years, the craft beer scene in Virginia Beach has expanded. Local breweries are creating small-batch beers that give you a taste of the local flavor. You can find craft breweries near the beaches and inland. If you’re at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, be sure to visit the taprooms of these craft breweries.

Back Bay Brewing

Situated near the ViBe Creative District, Back Bay Brewing is a laid-back brewery that embrace’s Virginia Beach’s casual vibe. Visit their tasting room to sample their small-batch brews, including the locally named False Cape Ale, Atlantic Avenue IPA and the seasonal Witch of Pungo Pumpkin Ale.

Home Republic

Right across from the statue of King Neptune is Home Republic Brewing Co. The owner wanted to create a place “that feels like home.” Visit Home Republic to try one of their beers that are brewed on-site. Their King Kolsch, a refreshing summer beer, pays tribute to Neptune himself. Order from their made-from-scratch menu to complete your Home Republic experience.

Smartmouth Brewery Pilot House

Smartmouth Brewery converted a former post office to create the Smartmouth Pilot House. Their small-batch beers utilize bold flavors to create noteworthy beers. The brewery received national recognition with the release of their Lucky Charms-flavored Saturday Morning IPA. Situated one block away from the Virginia Beach Boardwalk, this pet-friendly brewery has plenty of seating, both inside and outside, and even has food trucks on-site.

The Bunker Brewpub

Created by the minds behind Young Veterans Brewing Co., The Bunker’s large tasting room pours up flagship beers, special releases and a signature line of sour beers. The Bunker’s beers range from light and refreshing to sweet and tangy. Pair your beer with a dish from The Bunker’s menu of Southern coastal cuisine. The brewpub also hosts concert performances and free live music.

Vibrant Shore Brewing Co.

Coming soon to Virginia Beach’s craft beer scene is Vibrant Shore. Vibrant Shore’s craft brewery and tasting room is set to open in July, and will be located in the ViBe District. The 2,584-square-foot building will feature a 10-barrel Deutsche beverage brewing system, as well as a 609-square-foot outdoor seating area on the roof.

Isley Brewing Co.

Richmond brewery Isley Brewing Co. will be making its way south to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront for its second location. The brewery will open a 5,582-square-foot building within the ViBe District. The space will be able to make 2,000 barrels of beer per year, and will also boast a tasting room and space for live music. Isley Brewing Co. is scheduled to open in July.

Virginia Beach Craft Beer Trail
