Shopping in and around Virginia Beach

A Variety of Shops Wait Just Beyond the Boardwalk

By Arielle Patterson. Updated by Kelsey Thomas

Whether you’re looking for beach threads, something chic or something unique, Virginia Beach is a shopper’s seaside paradise. There’s lots of ground to cover when shopping here, and you’re bound to find much more than you can carry, so get ready to shop ‘til you drop.

Oceanfront

The Virginia Beach Oceanfront has a souvenir shop on almost every corner. Whether you’re looking for something for the sun, surf, sand or, of course, a remarkable souvenir, you can find everything you’re looking for and more. Customize a keychain for a personalized keepsake or bring the fashions of the beach home from one of the many beachwear and surf shops. You can
even temporarily brand yourself with a henna tattoo.

ViBe Creative District Virginia Beach

ViBe Creative District

Just blocks from the Oceanfront, the cultural arts come to life. Hit the streets and check out hand-painted works, ornate glasswork and ceramics. There’s something special for every art lover and the creativity of our local artists doesn’t stop there. Discover custom jewelry, hand-detailed leatherwork,  furniture, textiles and other items. Continue to shop locally at the outdoor marketplace that takes over 19th Street every Saturday, where you can support local bakers, growers and watermen while enjoying delicious homemade/homegrown treats.

Hilltop

Just a few minutes away from the resort area and down Laskin Road, shopping centers abound in the Hilltop neighborhood. The Shops at Hilltop is a premier shopping destination with a unique collection of stores. Spend the day searching for gifts, clothing, jewelry and decorative home goods. The Painted Tree also recently planted roots here, which is full of booth spaces rented by local retailers. La Promenade Distinctive Shoppes also boasts an array of stores, from big name brands to locally owned shops with local eateries dispersed throughout for a mid-shopping meal. Just minutes from Hilltop is one of the largest malls in the region, Lynnhaven Mall. This shopping destination has nearly 1.2 million square feet of shops and restaurants, with over 180 stores.

Town Center

Virginia Beach’s Town Center is further inland and is the focal point for dining, shopping and entertainment. This area features a diverse selection of stores, covering 17 blocks, from locally owned boutiques to national retailers. Just a few miles away from the hustle and bustle of Town Center, shop at a 22,000-square-foot antique mall on Bonney Road. This place is a dream come true for antique-fanatics and they carry everything from children’s toys and clothing to heirloom furniture and more.

Pick up beach essentials, groceries, home goods and more or relax with the family at the movies. The Shops at Strawbridge are home to a number of national retailers and even a locally owned jewelry store where you can find the perfect gift for a loved one.
