The circus is coming to Virginia Beach for the first time ever this summer!
Cirque du Soleil to Perform Under the Big Top in Virginia Beach
For the first time ever, Cirque du Soleil is thrilled to bring KOOZA, an adrenaline rush of acrobatics in a zany kingdom, to Virginia Beach this summer!
Thursday, July 16th through Sunday, August 16th
Virginia Beach Convention Center
1000 19th Street
Virginia Beach, VA
KOOZA is the story of The Innocent, a melancholy loner in search of his place in the world. The show combines two circus traditions—acrobatic performance and the art of clowning. Highlights of the show include:
- Physical demands of human performance in all its splendor
- Fragility presented in a colorful mélange
- Bold slapstick humor
The Innocent’s journey brings him into contact with a panoply of comic characters such as the King, the Trickster, the Obnoxious Tourist and his Bad Dog. Between strength and frailty, laughter and smiles, turmoil and harmony, KOOZA explores themes of fear, identity, recognition and power.
Sponsored by Live Nation, the show is set in an electrifying and exotic visual world full of surprises, thrills, chills, audacity and total involvement.
INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT KOOZA:
KOOZA is inspired by the Sanskrit word “koza,” which means “box,” “chest” or “treasure,” and was chosen because one of the underlying concepts of the production is the idea of a “circus in a box.”
Since its premiere in April of 2007, KOOZA has performed over 2,700 shows in 43 cities, in 12 different countries, on 3 different continents and has had over 4 million spectators and counting.
