Serving Up Memorable Food & Service
By Arielle Patterson
Experiencing something new can be inspiring. For Tony Gargiulo, it was a trip to Florence, Italy that sparked inspiration. There, in 1983, Gargiulo saw a wood-burning oven and wanted to make it the centerpiece of his own restaurant. Two years later, he had the first wood-burning oven in Virginia inside his restaurant, Il Giardino Ristorante, providing a one-of-a-kind experience to Virginia Beach diners.
“They were very excited because they had never seen anything like it before. Everyone wanted to come see the wood-burning oven,” recalls Maureen Murphy, general manager of Il Giardino.
For the last 30-plus years, Il Giardino has been serving fresh-baked focaccia bread and pizza from the restaurant’s wood-burning oven.
Il Giardino is a favorite among both locals and visitors to Virginia Beach. “After you’ve been here a few times, it feels like you’ve been coming your whole life,” Murphy explains.
Il Giardino serves up high-end cuisine in an unpretentious atmosphere. A “a big city” restaurant, but with the friendly vibe that Virginia Beach is known for.
Indulge in generous portions of pasta, veal, seafood, chicken, steak and more. Il Giardino butchers its meat in house, and the restaurant’s desserts are all made-from-scratch, including favorites like the New York style cheesecake and chocolate cake.
In addition to a memorable dining experience, Il Giardino also specializes in making personal memories. Make yours tonight!
