A New Rooftop Level Lures Guests to Abbey Road
By Julie Matthews
For more than four decades, Virginia Beach locals and visitors have gathered at Abbey Road Pub & Restaurant to enjoy a delicious menu including the freshest seafood available and to experience live performances by local and regional musicians. Perched above this beloved restaurant, Lucy’s Sky Bar is a new addition serving up tasty eats and drinks, and excellent entertainment amongst stunning rooftop ocean views.
“I had been thinking about the renovation for 25 years and it finally started in 2022, and Lucy’s Sky Bar opened on May 2, 2025,” says Owner Bill Dillon.
“I’m really happy with how it turned out.”
Now boasting a 152-seating capacity with approximately half of the seating inside and the other half outside, the establishment is bigger and better. While Lucy’s Sky Bar has a different menu than Abbey Road, it adheres to the same high standards of serving diners fresh, top-quality ingredients, including 100 percent olive oil, and overall healthier menu options. “If I don’t want to eat it, then I don’t want our customers to eat it,” says Dillon. (Note: Abbey Road has participated in the Surfrider Foundation and the Virginia Aquarium Sensible Seafood Program since it started around 15 years ago, and it is a Virginia Green restaurant.)
Lucy’s Sky Bar cuisine features tapas, salads, bites, sandwiches, burgers as well as several entrees. Lobster Bisque, Blackened Scallop & Shrimp Ceviche and Lucy’s Sky Bar Salad are a few must-try’s, and Lucy’s Beach Brunch is available on Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Along with a robust selection of libations, Lucy’s Sky Bar also serves a variety of specialty coffees including Cappuccinos, Americanos, Lattes and Frappuccinos.
The additional space upstairs means more great musical performances. Primarily a mix of pop, oldies and covers, live music can be enjoyed at Abbey Road five times a week and at Lucy’s Sky Bar Friday through Sunday. Thanks to curtains and a new pergola installed, Lucy’s Sky Bar provides a comfortable cover from the sun and rain, making it a great option for private parties. Another amazing perk: “You can see the ocean and the sunsets are awesome!” says Dillon.
