The original Murphy’s opened in Alexandria, VA in 1978 and when the opportunity arose to open a beach location, Tom and Ann Mooney knew their commercial fishing experience and background would bring a unique twist to an Irish pub at the oceanfront.

In 2019, the Mooney family even began their very own oyster farm on Virginia’s Eastern Shore. Back Creek Oyster Company® is located off the Chesapeake Bay’s historic Tangier Sound, which is known for producing the best oysters and soft-shell crabs in the world. Their Back Creek Beauties®, available daily from our Raw Bar, have lived up to the standard set and are a locals favorite. As “your home away from home,” Murphy’s constantly strives to create a comfortable, inviting atmosphere for our guests to enjoy. With the largest four-sided fireplace in Virginia Beach for the winter months, and a lively outdoor patio and bar with a new outdoor stage for the summer months, Murphy’s is the place to be all year long.
