Sandbridge Named One of the 10 Best Uncrowded Atlantic Beaches

Virginia Beach has several destinations to enjoy some quality relaxation by the water. Sandbridge Beach has always been known as a favorite to Virginia Beach locals, but visitors are catching on to all that Sandbridge has to offer. Sandbridge Beach was recently named on of USA Today’s 10 Best “Uncrowded Beaches on the Atlantic Ocean.”

The USA Today 10 Best is a ranking accumulated by online readers. Sandbridge Beach earned the votes thanks to the area’s peaceful beaches. Sandbridge is a one of Virginia Beach’s most quiet beach communities, lined with vacation homes. Sandbridge Beach sets itself apart from the other beaches in Virginia Beach as it allows families to spread out. The uncrowded, sandy beach offers plenty of room to lounge in the sun and splash in the waves. 

Last year, Sandbridge placed sixth on USA Today’s 2018 Readers’ Choice Awards for “Best Beach in Virginia.”

Things to Do in Sandbridge Beach

In addition to quiet, uncrowded beaches, Sandbridge Beach offers more to see and do. Sandbridge isn’t far from Back Bay Wildlife Refuge and False Cape State Park. Those are two pristine, natural destinations for hiking, fishing, kayaking and more.

Find all of your beach essentials at the shops right on Sandbridge Road. These retail stores sell everything from surfboards, paddleboards, bikes and beach equipment to beach apparel and accessories. There’s also a local market—the only grocery store at Sandbridge Beach—where you can find everything you need for a beach picnic, barbecue or simply drinks to fill up the cooler.

After relaxing on the beach, treat yourself to a bite to eat at one of Sandbridge’s local restaurants. These charming restaurants serve up fresh seafood and an array of fare that’s perfect for the whole family. Support local growers by visiting one of the farmer’s markets or farm stands. You’ll find several in the Pungo area on the way to Sandbridge Beach. These are great places to stop for fresh fruits and vegetables, along with homemade desserts, jellies, seafood, flowers and much more.
