Memorial Day Weekend marks the start of the beach season here in Virginia Beach. Virginia Beach will be bursting with activities and events all weekend long. From live music to ways to honor America’s heroes, here are some things to do Memorial Day weekend in Virginia Beach.

20th Annual Coastal Edge Steel Pier Classic
May 26-29, 2023, a World Surf League 1000 longboarding event. Come down to 1st street Jetty at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront and experience the art, surf, and culture from an event that draws in competitors from around the world.

Visit the Naval Aviation Monument Park
Honor those who have served in our armed forces by visiting the Naval Aviation Monument Park at the Oceanfront. The park features three scenes that depict the history of naval aviation throughout history. Learn a bit about the aircrafts, ships and people who dedicated their lives to the defense of our country.

Pay Tribute to Navy SEALs
After you browse the Naval Aviation Monument Park, head up to 38th Street where the Navy SEAL Monument stands. A six-foot-tall Naked Warrior statue stands, around him is the sand from locations where SEALs have served, trained, fought and bled.

Listen to Live Music
There will be no shortage of live music across Virginia Beach, especially at the Oceanfront. Head to a local restaurant, have a seat on the outdoor patio and grab a drink while a local band plays in the background.
Salute to Summer
May 26-28, 2023, free and open to the public, the oceanfront parks will be the stage for the free outdoor concert, Salute to Summer. This “star-spangled” celebration pays tribute to music, fun and the men and women of the military who have sacrificed their lives.
Enjoy the cool sounds of summer as the season of sun and fun kicks off on Memorial Day Weekend! Free concerts at 17th Street Park, 24th Street Park, and 31st Street Park feature local bands representing different genres and musical stylings. These concerts Friday, May 26-Sunday, May 28 complement the perfect weekend to sun, swim, and surf at the East Coast’s premier resort.
Enjoy our Heroes’ Walk banners along the boardwalk. These essays were composed by local Virginia Beach history students and tell the stories of various wars and conflicts the United States has been involved in over the years. They are a great reminder of the sacrifices made throughout our history.
