Best Biking Trails in Virginia Beach
There are over 200 miles of bikeways and trails in Virginia Beach, not including the trails within local parks and natural areas. Here are our favorite biking trails in Virginia Beach.
Virginia Beach Boardwalk
The Virginia Beach Boardwalk is filled with pedestrians and peddlers taking in the sights and sounds of the bustling Oceanfront area. The 28-foot wide boardwalk has designated lanes for bikers, to keep everyone on the boardwalk safe. These lanes are dedicated to bikers, surrey riders and skaters. Virginia Beach allows standard bikes, beach cruises and four-wheeled surrey bikes on this path. Be sure to check out all of the monuments on the Virginia Beach Boardwalk as you’re riding.
First Landing State Park
First Landing State Park has two trails with dedicated bike and hiking usage. Live Oak trail is the easiest. Just 0.4-mile long, this trail begins near Shore Drive and is a short loop near the beach. For more of a challenge, head to the Cape Henry Trail. This 6.1-mile-long trail is a moderate difficulty that takes you through the park’s wooded landscape to the Broad Bay.

False Cape State Park
In southern Virginia Beach, False Cape State Park has several mixed-use trails for hiking and biking. These trails rank as an easy difficulty and range in mileage from 0.1 to 1.4 miles. The most difficult bike trail, Sand Ridge, is 6.2 miles and travels the length of the park. False Cape’s bike trails will take riders by the area’s many coves, overlooks and through scenic landscapes perfect for spotting wildlife.

Pungo Loop
With limited traffic and scenic farm views, the Pungo Loop is a favorite among locals. Ride through Pungo, Virginia Beach agricultural area. Here you will find grassy fields, strawberry fields, waterways and even vineyards along this 19.84-mile loop. Stop along your ride at one of the local farm stands for fresh fruits and vegetables to snack on.
Mount Trashmore Loop
Those staying inland in Virginia Beach should visit Mount Trashmore Park. This 165-acre park is easily noticed due to its two large man-made mountains. At the base of these mountains are play areas for children, a skate park, two lakes and a multi-use path. Bring the whole family out for a bike ride on Mount Trashmore’s 1.9-mile paved loop.
