About the Military Aviation Museum
A trip to the Military Aviation Museum is perfect for the whole family. The museum is home to one of the largest private collections of World War I- and World War II-era military aircrafts in the world. These planes have been restored to their prior glory, using original parts when possible. These plans are now flown at the museum during flight demonstrations and air shows throughout the year.
Things to Do at the Military Aviation Museum
Take part in all of the family-friendly activities the Military Aviation Museum has to offer. Learn about military aviation, take a self-guided tour of the museum, fly through the skies in a historical airplane and event go on a dinosaur scavenger hunt. The museum also hosts seasonal workshops, a summer camp for children and more events throughout the year.
Tour the Hangers and Museum
The Military Aviation Museum features several different buildings and hangars for guests to explore. Walk among the historic planes from the first 50 years of military aviation. The Military Aviation Museum has four hangars to explore, including the Army Hangar, Navy Hangar, WWI Hangar and Cottbus.
Head to the Fighter Factory to learn more about the restoration and maintenance of these planes. Explore Goxhill Tower, a recreation of the control tower from America’s first airfield in England. Stand on the balcony for a great view the museum’s landscape.
Jerrassic Park
Before you enter the museum, or on your way out, be sure to check out the dinosaur sculptures. The Military Aviation Museum’s Jerrassic Park is free and open to the public. If you can identify all of the dinosaurs, you can win a prize.
Military Aviation Museum Flights
Experience the thrill of soaring in a military plane when you visit the Military Aviation Museum. Plane rides are offered at the museum during flight season, from April through late October.
You’ll board an authentic WWII aircraft with a trained pilot and fly over Virginia Beach’s rural countryside, as well as over waterways and the sand dunes at the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Choose between a 15- or 30-minute ride on a 1941 Boeing Stearman or 1989 Waco YMF-5.

The Military Aviation Museum is open daily from 9 a.m.–5 p.m. The museum closes on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
