Just because the summer is winding down does not mean the fun has to stop in Virginia Beach. The boardwalk is still buzzing with activity after Labor Day. Thousands of people head to the beach and boardwalk the last weekend of September for the Neptune Festival Boardwalk Weekend.

About Neptune Festival Boardwalk Weekend

The Virginia Beach Neptune Festival is celebrated right on the boardwalk during the Neptune Festival Boardwalk Weekend. From Friday through Sunday, Sept. 27-29, 2024, experience concerts, arts and crafts, sand sculptures and so much more during this free festival.

Along 32 blocks of the Virginia Beach Boardwalk, festival goers can enjoy daily performances, from 27 local, regional and national recording artists, on three stages. Don’t miss performers at stages on 17th, 24th and 31st streets. All concerts and free and open to the public.

Spanning the boardwalk over the weekend will be over 250 talented artisans displaying their one-of-a-kind works. The Neptune Festival Arts and Crafts Show has been ranked fifth in the country.

Things to Do during Neptune Festival

In addition to the Neptune Festival Boardwalk Weekend, the festival also features several other events that you’re sure to enjoy.

International Sand Sculpting Championship

Sept. 27th marks the start of the International Sand Sculpting Championship right here in Virginia Beach. Skilled sand sculptures, representing 11 countries from around the world, will turn ordinary sand into magnificent works of art on the beach between Sixth and Eighth Street.

Sept. 28th, race along ocean views during Neptune’s 8K Race. One of the oldest races in Virginia Beach, this race is perfect for both runners and walkers and ends with a post-race party at 31st Park. After the race, watch as the Neptune Festival Grand Parade travels from 16th to 32nd Street. The whole family will love the colorful floats, balloons, marching bands and more.

Sept. 28th, don’t miss Neptune’s Atlantic Regatta. These boats sail from Cape Henry to Rudee Inlet in this recreational race. You’ll be able to spot the boats right from Rudee Inlet.

Sept. 28-29th, is Neptune’s Surfing Classic at 2nd Street. Young and old surfers take to the ocean in this surf show down. With prizes to be had, make your mark in the surf of Neptune Festival month! This event is produced in conjunction with the Eastern Surfing Association, but you do not need to be an ESA member to participate.

Finally, on Sept. 29th, honor Virginia Beach’s heroes at Hometown Heroes: Neptune’s Final Toast. Local heroes will be honored during breakfast at the Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront Hotel. This is a ticketed event and tickets must be purchased in advance.
